Whale Watching

Hermanus is the mating and breeding grounds of the Southern Right Whale (Annually from June to November). These gentle giants migrate from the Antarctic around June to calve and mate. Wedged between the mountain and the sea, the quaint hamlet of Hermanus has been rated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as one of the 12 best whale watching locations in the world. Watch the world's gentle giants of the deep frolic in waters of Walker Bay from land, by boat or from the air via a scenic flight.

Shark Cage Diving

Great White Shark cage diving in Hermanus is a 365 day a year activity (weather permitting). Sharks are spotted all year long. Great White Shark cage diving has been operating here for over 20 years. This is THE place on the planet to do it, with a hit rate of 99.9% all year long and some boats can see up to 10 or 15 sharks in one trip out to sea, with literally loads of famous people doing it here in recent years. There is NO need for scuba or snorkelling experience as it is all surface viewing and novices are very welcome.


Hermanus Climate & Beaches

Average midday temperatures range from 25 °C in February to 16 °C in July. Safe swimming from numerous sandy beaches all along the whale coast. Blue Flag status on 3 of the beaches. These pristine beaches are interrupted by the high, rocky cliffs in town centre but eventually flatten out at Voëlklip and Grotto Beach.

Our town is also well known for our art galleries and festivals. The Hermanus Fine Arts Festival is in June, The Kalfiefees is in August and the Whale Festival is in September Art walk on the 1st Friday every month. 11 Art Galleries stay open on this day till 20h00 at night
